2010 World Series: Texas Rangers' pitchers hope to contribute with the bat
The Texas Rangers are upbeat with their preparations to go into their first World Series Contest since its inauguration. The team has yet to win the ultimate prize in Major League Baseball. Given the opportunity, they would love to make history by prevailing
in the post season after catching hold of their first win in the playoffs, earlier this month.
The team has a bunch of players who are ready for the challenge and when the New York Yankees' manager, Joe Girardi says that the hitting faction is formidable, there’s nothing more the fans can ask from the roster. However, the opponents, San Francisco
Giants will be aware of the danger and their manager Ron Washington sees this as a warning to prepare for the unthinkable.
Rangers’ outfielder, Jeff Francoeur believes that contingency play may be effective but if the pitchers start hitting, there would certainly be something seriously wrong in the match up against the Giants. The San Francisco side has, on the other hand, been
exposed to such situations before and their ace pitchers; Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain have combined in for 133 at bats in the year, thus far. In comparison to that, Cliff Lee and C. J. Wilson have been successful with just 7.
Jeff explained the situation, saying, “As much as we joke at the end of the day, they can help themselves out in situations. If you get to the eighth batter and there's a base open, they're going to get walked regardless of who it is. If a pitcher can find
a way to get one out there and get a hit, they can help themselves out. It's a big deal.”
Colby Lewis is unlikely to provide the hitting role while Cliff Lee will most likely be effective in this peculiar situation as he had 33 at bats for the Philadelphia Phillies last year and had 3 hits from 11 in the post season. The ball thrower stole a
base too. He remarked, “That's the hardest thing in all of sports, to hit a round ball with a round bat. It's a good challenge, the most fun part of the game as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to go out there and have fun with it.”
