2010 World Series Title: San Francisco Giants assessment
Who does not know of the San Francisco Giants? Anyone who has any sort of inclination towards America’s favourite sport, that is baseball, knows who the San Francisco Giants are. They won their 2010 World Series after quite a while so let us examine what
made them really work towards their goals.
The first thing would definitely have to be determination which was clearly evident in all their games and tactics. The Giants have failed to win the World Series since 1954 and it was definitely an overdue victory. In their general manager, Brian Sabean’s,
own words this particular group deserved it because it was faithful from the start. The stellar pitching rotation was able to achieve what Will Clark and Barry Bonds were not able to in 1989 and 2002, respectively. Waiting is supposed to be the hardest part
and the Giants have waited a long time for this title. However, it wasn’t just the team that waited so long for this victory, it was many others. People who were born in 1955 or 1956 have waited almost 50 years in frustration for this victory. And finally
it’s here.
The next feature to remember would have to be the players; Tim Lincecum, Cliff Lee and Edgar Renteria, who was also named the Player of the Season. Lincecum was definitely the winning pitcher. He continued his undefeated postseason of 2010 with a powerful
performance that included 10 strike-outs and only one earned run through eight innings. He got the Giants two of the four series wins. Cliff, the post-season phenomenon, allowed six hits and three runs in seven innings and Renteria smashed the home-run. He
called the shot that ended up being the game winner.
It has been agreed unanimously that the pitching was what led the Giants to the win but the offence was surprisingly good as well. The in game management was pretty strong in the playoffs, as well as the second half which Bruce Bochy deserves the credit
for. Likewise, Sabean also needs to be praised for building the pitching staff and putting together a united club that could succeed against playoff quality pitching of the Texas Rangers.
Even though chemistry doesn’t win any games, it helps considerably in getting there. There was frequent talk of the players getting along very well and cooperating with each other and it’s obvious that this wasn’t just talk. It was more a team effort than
any one of the players trying to bring the limelight upon themselves, instead of the whole team.
It’s not only a World Series that the Giants won as they managed to take out the Philadelphia Phillies and Cliff Lee as well. They won the series and can proudly say that along the way they beat the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves,
some of the best teams in baseball. The Giants have been very dominant this series and people are wondering whether National League has retaken the status for being the superior league.
Whatever way you look at it, the Giants won the World Series with a tremendous team effort. They came together as a team and beat the odds against some of the toughest and most talented teams in MLB to take home the coveted crown.
