2010 World Women's Squash Open: Tenille Swartz canters through to qualifying finals
Aged 23, South Africa's Tenille Swartz came out victorious in her second round match eliminating Britain's Emma Beddoes at the 2010 World Women's Squash Open. Despite being seeded no. 3 at the tournament, Beddoes was made to face defeat at the hands of the
South African underdog in the 93 minute long match played between the two.
Swartz came off to a good start as the professional took the first set eleven points to five. Proceeding further, similar to the first set, the sportswoman clinched the second set based upon her eleven to six point win.
However, after going nip and tuck in the third set, things took a downward turn for Tenille as Emma managed to bounce back, only to take the third set eleven points to nine. Fortunately for Beddoes, the fourth set also went in
her favour$$r as she defeated her opponent eleven points to nine.
Nevertheless, after remaining evenly contested throughout the match, it was Swartz that bagged the deciding set to make a place for herself in the following round. The sportswoman took the fifth set eleven points to six, to bring a close to the match.
In the words of Swartz, "Emma changed the pace in the third set and the match became much tougher.” Relieved after getting through with the gruelling contest, she further stated that she had played Beddoes before and knew what
to expect. She also exclaimed that they are both runners and do not give up. Tenille then said that she believed that they played a really good match and that she really enjoyed it.
Proceeding further, Tenille defeated Egypt's Heba El-Torky in the qualifying final played between both of the professionals. In a crisp forty minute match, Swartz got through with El-Torky thrashing her in three straight sets.
The South African sportswoman took the first set eleven points to seven. Right after which, after going head to head with El-Torky in the second set, Swartz clinched it twelve points to ten. The Egyptian professional rose up in
terms of performance as far as the third set is concerned. However, much to her dismay, her struggle was brought to an end as Tenille took the deciding third set fourteen points to twelve.
Considering the fact that the 2010 Women's World Open is Swartz's second since the year 2006 due to a number of injuries, the professional has performed fairly well. Additionally, after having defeated the third seeded player,
the sportswoman leaves no room for doubt about her limitless potential.
