Question:

2010 - will it be 'two thousand and ten', or 'twenty ten'?

I know they've been going on about the 'twenty twelve' (2012) olympics and things like that, but 'two thousand and ten' (2010) doesn't sound much different from 'two thousand and nine' (2009) so why is it changing? Then again it's always been like 'nineteen ninety-seven' (1997), 'eighteen ten' (1810), etc, so I suppose it does make more sense for it to go back to that way. 1908 was 'nineteen oh-eight' but 2008 isn't 'twenty oh-eight' so it's a bit confusing.

Is there a right and wrong or is it personal preference?

What would you rather call it?

Please do correct me if I'm wrong with any of those - it's late (3am!).

  1. The way you say/ write it depends on how your using it. E.g.

    1. Whats the date? It is the seventh (7th) of the eight (8th) two thousand and ten (2010).

It also has to do with the zeros and where they are in the number like 2020 twenty-twenty 2002 two thousand and two.

It is partly personal prefrence but if you say them they makesense one way more then the other, I'd rather call it twenty ten.

  2. Well I don't say twenty O eight (2008) so I don't understand myself why it's twenty ten or twenty twelve. I know I will say it as , two thousand and ten and two thousand and twelve, and so on. I really want to write more but my brain is shutting down, it's 3.15 and I am so *yawn* sleepy, night night folks  :)

  3. twenty ten i would guess at so that probably means it will be two thousand and ten

  4. Either two thousand and ten or, twenty-ten can be used.

  5. I think it's personal preference as to how you say it; however, I would say it as 'Twenty-ten.'

  6. I read the beginning of you question as twenty-ten, so I guess that's what I will be going with.

  7. Whichever you want, though I personally say twenty ten.

  8. I think its personal preference, because if you say two thousand and ten people will still understand 2010, the same if you say twenty ten.

So i think say whatever you want.

I personally prefer twenty ten but you choose whichever suits you !

  9. it's personal preference, I just hope I don't start hearing people say "twenty-oh-ten"

  10. 20 ,10.

  11. for me.. i usually use "twenty-ten" :)

i think that it's your own choice if you want to use "twenty-ten" or "two thousand ten"

  12. i don't know about the whole technical term things

but that will be for future generation tectbook-writers to decide.

i think its probably gonna end up being twenty ten

....but i like two thousand and ten better.

    :D

  13. it's just a personal preference. both are correct

  14. it is just personal preference. i would say twenty-ten. two thousand and ten is the same but you don't hear peopl going reound saying "oh yea i was born in one thousaind nine hundred and eighty". you know what i mean?

  15. neither, it will be referred to as the year two zero one zero

  16. As long as Obama is president of the U.S. at that time, call it whatever you want!
