2010’s Ten Greatest NFL Moments (Part 2)
Since then Michael Vick has claimed his post as elite quarterback and passing leader of the NFL. That fact can be highlighted by his performance in week 10 against the Redskins, where he threw 333 yards for four passing touchdowns and two rushing ones. The
Philadelphia Eagles scored more than twice as many points as the ‘Skins, with a final score of 59-28.
Just how long is too long? Brett Favre should be thinking about this, which puts him at number three on our list. He is the only active grandfather in the NFL, and has more Will-or-Won’t episodes in recent years than winning games. The Minnesota Vikings
veteran quarterback turned 41 this year, and turned the team upside down and sideways.
First he skipped training camp because he said he was retiring, and then came back to play again. Also he used his cell phone in a way that would have horrified his mother, after New York Jets game hostess Jenn Sterger claimed that Favre sent her lewd texts
and racy photos, when they were both on the Jets squad.
The injury-prone Favre has played a horrible season, which is likely to be his last, after throwing almost twice as many interceptions as touchdowns. His recent injuries make backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson look more like the better starting option.
Number two on the list of the greatest NFL moments of 2010 features Randy Moss. His 13th season in the NFL has been a rather horrible for one of the league’s most talented receivers. He played for three different teams,
was cut from two of those, and left disappointed fans and teams on the way. Six seasons after being traded from the Vikings to the Oakland Raiders, Moss returned to the Vikings. The New England Patriots traded him to the Vikings, and what was even worse is
that it was for a third round draft pick.
Then he spoke very highly of the Pats, while condemning the Vikes. So what did they do? Cut him of course. He was then picked up by the Tennessee Titans, where he caught only one pass in his first two games.
Last but certainly not least on the list are the coaches in the NFL. Halfway through the regular season, two of the league’s most problematic coaches were let go. Owners who were fed up put an end to their team’s misery, much to the delight of disappointed
fans. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired Wade Philips after they lost to the Green Bay Packers 45-7 in Week nine, and had a 1-9 record at the time anyway.
Fans believed that Jones should have made the move ages ago, when the ‘Boys lost their first two games. They did manage to win the third one against the Houston Texans but it didn’t really matter, since they lost the next five in a row. He was replaced by
Jason Garrett as interim head coach.
Favre may have spoke out for Brad Childress in 2009, but his horrible playing this year made it even worse. However, the fact that Childress cut Moss without consulting owner Zygi Wolf probably sealed the deal. Childress was let go and replaced by interim
head coach Leslie Frazier.
All in all, it has been a rather eventful year in the NFL. Vick has put the Eagles at the top of the NFC East, Favre is out with a concussion but still likely to play the last game of the season, while Moss has only five receptions with the Titans.
Also Garrett has won four out of six games since he took over the team, while Frazier has won two and lost two. However, there is still one game left for teams this season, so there may be another moment to add to this list.
