2011/12 season schedule released for University of Arkansas – Volleyball news
The University of Arkansas volleyball team has recently broadcast its finalised schedule for the upcoming season. The Razorbacks have chalked up an interesting mixture of non-conference as well as league matches, punctuated by home court matches.
The head coach of the Razorbacks, Robert Pulliza, made the following comments about the schedule that his team will be facing in a few weeks time: "We're excited about this schedule because of the challenges its presents and how it sets up for us to contend for the postseason. As always, the SEC speaks for itself because of the quality opponents throughout the conference. Last year, six teams (from the SEC) made it to the NCAA Tournament and we hope to be among that group this year."
The Razorbacks have decided to start off their season taking it easy at the beginning in order to build their confidence and then take on tougher competitors. As a result, the first couple of matches that the Razorbacks will be playing are at the Arkansas Invitational. The tournament is scheduled to be held from 26th to 27th August. The Razorbacks will welcome two teams that were able to make it to the NCAA tournament in the previous season. These top competitors include Colorado State and Middle Tennessee. The fourth team in the Arkansas Invitational is McNeese State.
After the home tournament, the Razorbacks will be heading towards the Wake Forest tournament where they are going to take on Charleston Southern, Georgetown as well as the host team, Demon Deacons. This tournament will take place from the 2nd to 3rd of September
The first two tournaments of the Razorbacks as well as the third, the West Point Challenge to take place in New York from Sep 9-11, are all non-conference matches.
The league matches that the Razorbacks have set up will enable them to face a total of nine teams that have been part of the NCAA tournament last season. In all, they will be featuring 14 matches on home court.
