2011-2012 NHL season: Boston Bruins Goaltender Tim Thomas comes out clean and confident-NHL News
Boston Bruins’ goaltender, Tim Thomas, is said to be the only lucky player of the team to have come out of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) season without an injury and any regret.
Bruins were eliminated from the Eastern Conference playoff quarterfinal series in Game 7 that the Washington Capitals won courtesy of a controversial, overtime goal.
The goal was scored while apparently impeding the movement of the netminder within his crease by Capitals attacking player.
Some of commentators have backed the stance that Thomas has taken on Facebook that according to the relevant rule of the league such a goal needed to be disallowed.
Apparently, the goaltender protested the goal but the on-ice officials did not pay much heed to the player’s plea.
The goal also generated some protest from Bruins’ fans. Some of diehard supporters have gone as far as to throw racial slur on the Twitter page of Joel Ward, who scored the goal on a rebound.
Bruins, however, have sidelined themselves from the attack, and issued an official statement to condemn it straight after they became aware of the incident.
Away from the controversy, Thomas said that he did not have any regret about the past season. He also described himself to be lucky to have not suffered any injury during the course.
He said:
"I feel good. I'm one of the lucky ones here that is leaving with no injuries and in good health. Mentally, the last 20 months has been a long run, but all things considered I think I held up pretty well."
When asked about having any regret, he said:
"Not really. I did the best I could. On and off the ice, I tried to do what I felt was right. And I tried to prepare myself as much as possible to do the best job I could possibly do, on the ice, which is when it's obviously the most important as a professional
athlete."
The goaltender is entering into final year of his contract while his competitor in front of the team’s net, Tuukka Rask, also needs a fresh deal. Both of them are likely to come back next season.
