2011/2012 summer transfer window team – Centre Backs
There have been a lot of great centre backs leaving their clubs to join better clubs in order to prove their worth to the world. However, since most of the big clubs are concentrating on signing strikers, not many big clubs have signed defenders.
A few important centre backs who have changed their clubs in this summer transfer window are: Jerome Boateng, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jones-c29903 and Raphael Varane.
The German defender became a part of Manchester City last season. However, due to lack of first team opportunities, Boateng decided to join the German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich during the summers.
Boateng joined Manchester City for 10.4 million Pounds. Even though he was considered as a first choice defender by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 Toure turned out to be better than him in the centre back
position. Boateng appeared 24 times for the Premier League side but since his services were not really required, and he wanted to play in the first team, Manchester City decided to cell him.
A deal worth 13.5 million Euros was agreed between City and Bayern Munich and Boateng departed from the Premier League club.
Another centre back who changed his club in this summer transfer window is Phil Jones. The very young Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson is going to include him in his squad.
Phil Jones started playing football in Blackburn Rovers when he became a part of their http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787 back in 2002. He was promoted to the first team at the age of 17 in the year 2009. Since he was also considered to be a “home grown” player by the FA, Ferguson
decided to add him into his team.
The 19 year old is now going to be a part of the Red Devils as a deal was struck between the two sides. The fee was undisclosed and the centre back left Blackburn Rovers to join the English Champions.
Another young centre back left Partizan to join Manchester City for 6 million Pounds. The Yugoslavian defender Stefan Savic was a part of Partizan and played 20 games for them in a single season despite his young age. With Jerome Boateng leaving, City needed
a defender who could sit on the bench and was also a talented player; therefore, Roberto Mancini decided to sign Savic.
Real Madrid have been on their toes to sign good players in order to strengthen their squad this summer. Jose Mourinho did not waste a lot of time to sign the best from the market. Despite having such an outstanding midfield, he decided to buy the Bundesliga
star http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nuri-Sahin-c28251.
Madrid faced a lot of problems in their defence last season and with the Portuguese left back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Coentrao signing up for the Spanish Giants, Mourinho added more depth to the squad after adding the young centre back Raphael Varane.
The former Lens youngster looked to be quite promising in his last season. With many clubs making an approach to sign him, he decided to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe – Real Madrid.
