2011/2012 summer transfer window team – Left Backs
Many clubs face a problem whenever it comes down to the left back position. With the way the game is being played these days, a versatile left back is required to fulfil the requirements of the team.
A full back should not only be good in defence; in fact, he should move up the flank and aid the team in attack. Currently it is one of the most difficult positions to play. The reason why this position is considered to be difficult is because the full back
makes a move up the flank, then runs back to help the team in defence. A good full back requires the skills of a defender and an attacker.
Finding such a player is quite difficult. Moreover, with less left footed players in the world compared to the right footed players, it is hard to find a left full back.
Even the La Liga Giants, who are considered to be one of the best clubs in the world, Real Madrid could not afford an extraordinary left full back last season. That is the reason why their coach Jose Mourinho decided to step into the transfer market this
summer and bought the Portuguese full back Fabio Coentrao from Benfica.
Coentrao’s talent was seen on the field during the FIFA World Cup 2010 when he represented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984. Jose Mourinho decided to buy him the last season but the deal did not really take place. Now Coentrao has joined Real Madrid and he will be replacing the
Brazilian full back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcelo-c23554 who had a few problems throughout the last season.
Coentrao was involved in a deal worth 30 million Euros between the two parties. Jose Mourinho now looks to strengthen his squad and a full back was desperately needed to give http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 a tough time in all the competitions.
With Coentrao leaving Benfica, they needed a new left full back. The Spanish left back Joan Capdevila’s contract expired at Villarreal and the 33 year old decided to move out of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152
Coentrao in the first team and now the FIFA World Cup 2010 winner is going to be playing for the Portuguese side.
Another full back switched teams this season and it came out as a shock to a lot of fans. It is for the second time in Wenger’s era that a good left full back left his side. First it was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and now Gael Clichy has
left Arsenal to join Manchester City.
Clichy became an integral part of the Arsenal line-up as they did not really have any other player to replace him. However, he decided to play for Manchester City while Arsenal are still looking for a player to replace him.
Gael Clichy’s last season with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 was exceptional. It was one of his best seasons with the North London; however, the team failed to perform as a whole. Even though they were in the title race for most of the season, they suffered with a lot of losses
and draws towards the end and could not get a direct into the UEFA Champions League as they finished fourth in the Premier League.
Now Arsenal have to play the qualifying round of the Champions League while Gael Clichy will enjoy first team European football at Manchester City.
