2011/2012 summer transfer window team – Wingers (Part 4)
Another winger who has left his club this season is Stewart Downing. The Englishman played for Aston Villa and had a good season with the club.
Stewart downing has joined Liverpool, who are trying to become a powerhouse in the English Premier League all over again.
With Manchester United winning their 19th English League title last season, it means that Liverpool’s 18 title record is now beaten. The Reds are now going to try and compete against the Red Devils and they will try to win the English Premier
League in order to go on level terms with Manchester United all over again.
While strengthening his squad, the Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish realized that he needed a winger. Raul Meireles was played as a winger alongside Maxi Rodriguez last season. However, Meireles is not naturally a winger and Liverpool desperately needed
someone to play on the flanks.

Gerrard is currently injured and he is not going to be perfect to play until September. Kenny Dalglish is trying to sell Raul Meireles as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 was desperately needed in the Liverpool line-up as they did not have a single player to operate on the flanks. Downing had a great season with his former club and he is definitely going to try his best to adjust in the Liverpool starting
line-up.
One of the reasons why Kenny Dalglish decided to sign the Aston Villa man is because he is an Englishman he comes under the quota of home grown players. Moreover, Downing had a phenomenal last season and he is experienced to play in the English Premier League.
This way he is not going to take a lot of time to adjust in the English Premier League and Liverpool will also have enough English players in the starting line-up.
Stewart Downing’s last season was simply outstanding as the Englishman managed to appear 44 times for Aston Villa. From those 48 games, 38 of them were in the English Premier League, 3 were in the FA Cup, 2 were in the League Cup and 1 was in the Europa
League.
Downing managed to score 7 goals in the Premier League. He was unable to score in the FA Cup but he scored one goal in the League Cup to take his goal scoring tally to 8 in the last season.
However, Downing’s goal scoring is not the only thing Liverpool is looking for. The Reds needed a player to perform for them on the flanks and with Downing being experienced in the English Premier League; he is not going to take a lot of time to adjust in
the Liverpool line-up.
Due to these reasons, Kenny Dalglish decided to sign the Aston Villa star and he came to Liverpool for a fee which is believed to be around 20 million Pounds. Even though he cost Liverpool a lot, he is going to give the team whatever is required from him.
