2011 Abierto Mexicano Telcel: Stanislas Wawrinka and Fabio Fognini advance to the second round
Stanislas Wawrinka defeats Pablo Andujar 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-0
Switzerland’s Number 2 Stanislas Wawrinka managed to upset Spanish tennis pro Pablo Andujar in three lopsided sets, ultimately winning the match 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-0. Stanislas “the Manislas” Wawrinka defeated his opponent in a little over two hours and two
minutes.
The first set of the match was a closely contested one, as Wawrinka and Andujar exchanged forehands back and forth before reaching set point. Wawrinka was slightly ahead, managing to score one ace against his opponent. However, both players successfully
converted two break points against each other, although Wawrinka emerged victorious after winning three points more than Andujar in the first set.
Andujar, who is currently World Number 67, managed to overtake Wawrinka in the second round. Although both players managed to score two aces apiece, Andujar broke Wawrinka twice and suffered just one break point himself. He also won the set 6-3, with 59
percent of the total points played.
However, Wawrinka made an unexpected recovery in the third set. His comeback coincided with Andujar’s exhaustion, and the World Number 15 annihilated his opponent in just six service and return games. The 25-year-old Swiss pro did not allow Andujar to break
him even once, although he himself converted three break points and won 29 of 44 points to take the set 6-0.
Wawrinka, who is seeded fifth at this event, will now face Italian pro Fabio Fognini in the second round of the Acapulco tournament.

points in the match. He took away the set 6-3.
The second set was, for the most part, a repetition of the first one. Fognini scored one ace throughout the match, in addition to breaking thrice and saving two of four break points for himself. He won 36 of 68 points during the match, and combated Gonzalez’s
attempt to recover by defeating the player 6-4.
Fabio Fognini will now be competing against Stanislas “the Manislas” Wawrinka in the second round.
