2011 Arafura Games: Day 2 results - 12yr and under swimming events
The morning session of day two of the 2011 Arafura Games concluded after the remarkable swims of the 12 and Under age category swimmers on May 9, 2011. The session concluded with the preliminary rounds of the 100m freestyle and the 50m butterfly in the 12yrs
and Under swimming category.
The first event of the session was the Girl’s 100m freestyle, where Victoria’s Elly-Rose Martin dominated the event by qualifying as the fastest swimmer into the final, clocking a time of 1:04.64 minutes. New Caledonia’s Emma Terebo and NT’s Jayde Freeman
followed her on the finishing wall, posting 1:07.28 and 1:08.67 minutes for the second and third fastest qualification.
Moments later, New Caledonia’s Thibaut Mary occupied the fastest qualification spot in the final of the Boy’s 100m freestyle. Mary was only 0.24 seconds faster than her closest rival swimmer, Mathieu Michel, and clocked a time of 1:05.32 minutes. Michel,
who qualified as the second fastest swimmer into the final, posted a time of 1:05.56 minutes. They were followed by NT’s Stuart McRae, who qualified as the third fastest swimmer, with a timing of 1:06.21 minutes.
In the Girl’s 50m butterfly, Victoria’s Martin once again came out of the pool as the fastest swimmer to enter tonight’s final, touching the wall in 32.42 seconds. Her timing was only 0.15 seconds faster than her fellow swimmer, Terebo, who touched home
in 32.57 seconds. West Australia’s Brittany Beesley followed them into the finals, clocking 34.26 seconds for the third fastest qualification.
The last event of the session was the Boy’s 50m butterfly, where Mary earned the fastest qualification spot, with a timing of 31.33 seconds. He was followed by WA-sp’s Gerard Standing and New Caledonia’s Mathieu Michel, who qualified as the second and third
fastest sprinters into the final, with a timing of 31.74 and 32.09 seconds respectively.
The finals of the same events will take place in the second session, where these swimmers will only be a step away from claiming the titles of their respective events. The championship will continue for two more days and will conclude on May 11, 2011 after
conducting all the swimming events.
