2011 Arafura Games: Day two results - 17 years and above Swimming events
The Morning session of day two of the 2011 Arafura Games concluded after the dazzling swims of 17 yrs and Above age group swimmers in their respective events. The session included the preliminary rounds of the 50m freestyle and the 100m back-stroke for the
Boy’s and Girl’s of 17 years and older.
The session started with the Girl’s 50m freestyle, where Philippines-AK’s Roanne Florence Yu dominated the event by qualifying as the fastest swimmer in a time of 28.82 seconds. Sarah Rouam-Sim of New Caledonia was only 0.04 seconds away from her and qualified
as the second fastest swimmer, touching the wall in a time of 28.86 seconds. They were followed by Papua New Guinea’s Judith Meauri, who emerged as the third fastest qualifying swimmer, clocking a time of 29.13 seconds.
After a few minutes, Peter Pokawin of Papua New Guinea earned the fastest qualification spot for the Boy’s equivalent event. Pokawin claimed the fastest time by touching the wall first with a timing of 25.90 seconds. Pokawin was followed by his team member
Daniel Pryke and Philippines-AK’s Johansen Benedi Aguilar, who qualified as the second and third fastest swimmers with a timing of 25.94 and 26.23 seconds.
Next was the Girl’s 100m back-stroke, where New Caledonia’s Sarah emerged as the quickest swimmer into the finals, clocking a time of 1:22.12 minutes. Philippines-AK’s Monique Bacolod and Indonesia’s Ester Anokio followed her into the finals as the second
and third swimmers, clocking a time of 1:24.43 and 1:24.78 minutes respectively.
The final event of the session was Boy’s 100m back-stroke, where Banjo Borja of Philippines earned the fastest qualification spot in a time of 1:13.83 minutes. He was almost two seconds ahead of swimmers Adam Ampa’oi and Dhil Anderson Lee, who ended in a
tie for second fastest qualification, clocking the same time of 1:15.53 minutes. They were followed by Ian Nakmai, who secured the fourth spot in 1:15.54 minutes.
The finals of the same events will be conducted in the evening session, where these swimmers will once again battle each other to earn the titles of their respective events.
