2011 Asian Cup Group A Match Review - Qatar vs. Uzbekistan (Part 1)
It was a very disappointing start for the host nation of the Asian Cup as they suffered a loss to the White Wolves. Qatar is the host nation of the Asian Cup and they lost the game 0-2 at home, as they faced off Uzbekistan. Qatar
were totally outplayed by the White Wolves as the 2011 Asian Cup got under way.
The first half started off with the Uzbeks totally dominating the game, not only in terms of possession but also in terms of shots on targets. The defenders playing in white did not let the host team cross them and throughout the
first half; it was one-way traffic. Even though the first half did not create goal-scoring opportunities for the visitors, during the second half http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Odil-Ahmedov-c28307 and Server Djeparov made sure that they put their team in front.
Even though the Uzbeks were dominating the game play, Qatar were the side that had a chance to take the lead during the first five minutes of the second half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hussein-Yasser-c16497 crossed from the left flank towards Fabio Cesar, but
the Qatar midfielder simply could not head the ball into the goal and his effort drifted wide off target. Djeparov had an outstanding opportunity right after that attack as he passed, got past three Qatar defenders and selflessly passed it back towards Alexander
Geynrikh, who was clear on goal. However, the visitors were simply unlucky with the shot as Geynrikh struck his shot on the pole.
A few moments later, the White http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexander-Geynrikh-c4832, who was able to breach through the offside trap of Qatar’s defensive walls. The striker laid the ball towards Maksim
Shatskikh at the far post. Even though the striker slid in to tap the ball inside the goal, the Qatar goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qasem-Burhan-c30197 made himself bigger and easily blocked the ball towards safety.
Despite the fact that Burhan made a great save, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986 number 1 made a deadly mistake later on. The host team’s goal stopper was not correctly positioned between the two poles and he took the goal kick short, which fell right
at the feet of Jasur Khasanov. Khasanov took too long to shoot and the laziness did not really pay off for the visiting team as his effort was deflected out for a corner, which did not really result into anything positive.
Even though http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uzbekistan-c3037 were the ones who settled in well during the first half, Qatar were the side who looked to be improving with time. Qatar’s Fabio Cesar worked magically in the midfield and provided the team with extraordinary
passes. The host team started to defend strongly and started to move the ball around well towards the end of the first half. With only 7 minutes in the half remaining, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Cesar won a free kick outside the 18-yard box. The free kick was fabulously taken,
but the Qatar midfielder only managed to find the woodwork as a glorious opportunity was wasted by the home team again.
