Boy's events: Day Four Recap
2011 Australian Age Championship continues successfully on its day four at the Swimming Australia Aquatic and Leisure Club in Adelaide. The session included the finals of the 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 100m back-stroke, 200m butterfly,
200m Individual Medley (IM) and the 400m freestyle in different age groups of boys
The session started with the 100m butterfly in the 17-18 years category, where Trinity Grammar’s Kenneth To earned the gold medal in a superb time of 53.31 seconds. Kenneth was followed by Indooroopilly’s Christopher Raven and East Brisbane’s Zac Dalby,
who reached the podium for silver and bronze medal in a time of 54.77 and 55.41 seconds respectively.
Moments later, Southport’s 16-year-old Cameron McEvoy proved his eligibility for the 200m freestyle crown by touching the wall in 1:50.85 minutes. His time placed him comfortably ahead of the NZL’s Corey Main, who climbed the podium for the silver medal
in a time of 1:52.04 minutes. Woden’s Hugo Morris managed a bronze finish, clocking a time of 1:53.86 minutes on the board.
Then, the arena witnessed a dazzling swim of three swimmers who battled each other for the gold crown, but failed to pass each other and ended in a draw for the event. MLC Marlins’s Edward Marks, Knox Pymble’s Van Westing and Cherrybrook’s Angus Hannan touched
the wall in a same time of 24.50 seconds. This is for the first time at any championship that three swimmers ended in a tie for the gold medal.
Next was the 15-year-old-s 100m back-stroke, where Townsville’s Regan Leong surfaced for the gold medal, clocking a time of 58.38 seconds. Leong out-touch his closest rival Kevins’s Alexander Graham by 0.29 seconds. Graham occupied the silver medal in 58.67
seconds and was followed by Peters Westers’s Yan Tkachenko, who touched the wall third in 59.31 seconds.
After few minutes, 13-year-old Dom Richardson of TSS Aquatics claimed the golden spot for the 200m butterfly event by touching home in 2:11.67 minutes. Telopea’s Alexander Ryan and City of Perth’s Damian Fyfe followed him on the podium for the silver and
bronze medal in a time of 2:13.90 and 2:14.68 minutes.
In the mean time, Kenneth To once again reached the top of the podium for the gold medal, clocking a time of 2:01.17 minutes. Mackay’s Justin James and Brothers’ Buster Sykes secured the second and third spot on the podium in 2:04.99 and 2:05.15 minutes.
Last event of the session was 14-year-old's 400m freestyle, where Melbourne’s Mack Horton met the crowd’s expectations by clocking a time of 4:01.91 minutes. Mincham and Mitch Phillips secured their second and third spot on the podium, clocking a time of
4:03.94 and 4:08.16 minutes.
After the conclusion of the last event, the crowd acknowledged the thrilling performances of junior swimmers, who demonstrated their unique swimming skills to score a podium finish
