2011 Australian Age Championships - Day four finals of Girl's events
Evening session of day four of the 2011 Australia Age Championships witnessed the gruelling effort of Tessa Wallace in the 100m butterfly on Thursday. The championship is a six-day competition in Adelaide and will conclude on Saturday with the completion
of all events in the youth category.
The session started with the 17-18 years' 100m butterfly, where Pelican Waters’s Tessa Wallace demonstrated a breath-taking effort of 1:00.10 minutes to earn the gold crown. With her undisputed effort, she was considerably away from her closest swimmers,
Leah Bird and Nicole Mee, who touched the wall for silver and bronze medal in 1:01.47 and 1:01.51 minutes.
Next was the 16 years' 200m freestyle, where Chandler’s Mikkayla Sheridan earned the gold medal in 2:01.08 minutes. Her timing was almost a second faster from the last year’s champion, Amy Allen, who clocked 2:02.13 minutes to earn the gold medal in 2010.
She was followed by Brittany Elmslie and Je Liimatainen, who occupied the podium for the silver medal in 2:03.70 and 2:04.03 minutes.
Moments later, Ami Matsuo conquered the gold medal for the 14yrs 50m freestyle, clocking a time of 25.34 seconds. Southport’s Brittany McEvoy and Jamboree Heights’s Tatum Marais followed her on the podium for the silver and bronze medal in 26.33 and 26.47
seconds.
Later, Melbourne’s 15-year-old Hayley Baker climbed the top of the podium for the 100m back-stroke, clocking a time of 1:02.99 minutes. Tianni Gilmour of Pelican’s and Jasmine Tong of Marlin Coast secured a silver medal and a bronze medal with a timing of
1:04.27 and 1:04.60 minutes.
Subsequent to the event was the 12-13 years' 200m butterfly, where Jemma Schlicht and Taylor Green demonstrated a fierce battle. They both displayed a neck-to-neck swim, but Schlicht managed to out-touch her on the finishing wall, posting a time of 2:18.92
minutes against Green’s 2:18.96 minutes effort.
In the 17-18yrs 200m IM, Tessa Wallace once again occupied the podium’s top, clocking a time of 2:15.60 minutes. Brothers’ Aisling Scott and Melbourne’s Holly Brettle settled second and third with a timing of 2:18.31 and 2:19.96 minutes.
After few minutes, Kawana Waters’s Fairweather smashed the gold medal for 400m freestyle by clocking a time of 4:13.80 minutes. She was followed by Melbourne’s Rachael Mihatsch and Nunawading’s Kate Laidlaw, who finished their swims for the silver and bronze
medal in a time of 4:22.62 and 4:23.33 minutes.
Then, gold medal for the 16 years' 200m breast-stroke was captured by Kate Dimou in a time of 2:34.04 minutes while Taylor McKeown and Carlee Millikin settled second and third in 2:34.89 and 2:36.66 minutes.
