2011 Australian Goldfields Open qualifiers at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield: Day two results
Although the first day of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open qualifiers brought mixed fortunes for Q School pro tour card winners, Day 2 fared better as almost all Q School pro ticket winners surged
into the next round of the qualifiers at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Moreover, the legendary Jimmy White registered his first qualifier win against Paul Davison.
Chinese Li Yan qualified for the main tour first time in his career and is having an impressive run so far this season. Yan clinched his first qualifier against Kacper Filipiak 5-0 on Tuesday, June
28. Next he was up against Scotsman, Alan McManus in his second qualifying match and dumped the latter quite convincingly by firing decent knocks of 52, 81 and 75.
Another Chinese from Q School’s main tour card holders, Tian Pengfei took over Anthony McGill in his second qualifier and played an outstanding match. The Chinese fired some extraordinary clearances
of 95, 104, 113 and 107 to outplay McGill by 5- 1 in the second round. Pengfei has jumped directly into ultimate qualifying round as he got a walkover against Anthony Hamilton.
He will now meet England’s Mark Davis in his fourth qualifier. The Chinese is at the brink of a golden opportunity to make it to the televised stages of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open at Bendigo
Stadium in Victoria. All he needs is one victory over Davis.
The most interesting match was played between Jimmy White and Paul Davison. Both were haead-to-head against each other in World Open 2011 where White defeated him 3-1. This time, White treated Davison
with the same medicine and saw him off, 5-2.
