The Melbourne resident won the opening set 7-6 after it went to a tie breaker. The right hander then served out the final set at 6-4 to seal a win in the end.
The professional tennis player from Australia who achieved her career high ranking of number 138 last year during the month of December is currently ranked number 214 in the South African Airways WTA list. She has defeated a couple
of important players on the tour so far in her career such as Jelena Dokic, Maria Kirilenko and Alicia Molik and also took sets from Sania Mirza, former top ranked Dinara Safina, Sorana Cirstea, Kateryna Bondarenko, Casey Dellacqua, Jarmila Groth, Anastasia
Rodionova and Alona Bondarenko.
In her semifinal match on Saturday, the first set lasted for almost an hour as the match was also delayed for sometime due to rain. Olivia’s strong forehand made all the difference in the end as it proved to be a strong weapon
versus the second seed Ferguson.
“It was really tough conditions with the wind and the sun in my eyes, but I stayed mentally tough and I played well in the important points, and I am glad I executed it. Rogowska said after the win. Sophie is definitely not an
easy opponent and I fought really hard and I am glad it paid off. It was not my prettiest tennis, but I played well in the important points,” she said.
Olivia looked confident right from the start of the match and exhibited game play of a superior quality than her opponent. The right hander did well to break her opponent’s serve midway through the decisive set and thus sealed
a win in the end.
The 1.75 meter tall, Olivia Rogowska of Australia, by virtue of this victory, will take on Jelena Dokic in the finals on Sunday.
Rogowska, right after her win, was taken to a private room by the doping officials for a urine and blood sample.
