2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open Player Ratings: Audi 11 – Lucchese 10
Audi went to take on Lucchese in what was set to be a real challenge for the latter one – the defending champions of the 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open. The cliff-hanging game was played at the Santa Barbara Polo Club to decide the spot of the semi-final
round. It was an emotional day for the Lucchese as the supporters were left fed-up that Adolfo Cambiaso-led Lucchese failed to move into the title-claiming round.
Marc Ganzi will be happier player from the two sides, as they edged out one of the favourite teams of the tournament. The game was played in quite a fast pace which was decided in the sudden-death overtime.
Here are the player ratings of the standout performances from the two sides.
Audi
Marc Ganzi
Ganzi was almost impressive throughout the two halves and accomplished outstanding performances which annoyed the Lucchese defenders. Conversely, he did not take pressure and displayed an impressive game on defence and offence. He scored thrice in the six
chukka action and played a vital role in the team victory. He not only played brilliantly himself but brought his team-mates into the game with his unselfish style.
Gonzalito Pieres
Pieres was wonderful and showed a high-level of energy at the both ends of play. The attacker seemed to pop in everywhere and made impressive passing with his team-mates. He not only linked up well with the team but carried out five goals in the crucial
quarter-final game. Though he was denied on couple of occasions, he did not lose hope and ruined the defensive line of Lucchese with back-to-back shots. He scored from both the penalty shots and field play.
Carlitos Gracida
One of the players that struggled at the pitch was Carlitos Gracida who failed to add any score on the scoreboard. It seemed that Carlitos Gracida’s age is finally catching up with him and he might want to think about retiring from the game. He failed to
show his real worth as he used to do in the previous tournaments. He attempted to convert penalty shots but failed to do so. On the other hand, he remained unimpressive on defence.
Carlos Gracida
Carlos Gracida once again exhibited his worth over the field and managed to score thrice in the highly competitive fixture. He not only managed to impress everyone with his fast-paced game but also created chances for his frontrunner. He showed outstanding
stick-work and movement at the horseback.
Lucchese
John Muse
Muse struggle throughout the game as he did not serve his team effectively on offence or defence. He made mistakes that permitted the opposing team to mark goals.
Julio Curbelo
Curbelo was all over the field and grew as the game went on and earned two brilliant goals for his team. He also displayed an outstanding game on the defence and denied plenty of attacks.
Adolfo Cambiaso
Cambiaso – one of the best polo players in the world showed his worth over the stick and marked five goals in a bid to put his side to defend the medal. He was back to his best in the first three frames of action. With seconds into the match, he slammed
a powerful shot that proved his game on attack. His five goals comprised of best conversions but these could not save them from defeat.
Jeff Blake
It was another mature performance from the Argentinean player who scored three times in the crucial match. He made his efforts wonderfully to serve his side but to no avail.
