2011 Brisbane International: Andy Roddick cruises into title battle
Last year’s winner Andy Roddick from the United States of America has made his way into the final of the 2011 Brisbane International Men’s singles tournament on Saturday. Roddick advanced into the title battle after getting the
better of Kevin Anderson from South Africa in the semi-final round in three sets. The final match score was 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. The battle concluded within two hours of action.
As a result of this win, the highest ranked American has reached the Brisbane final on the second occasion in a row. He will now take on world number five Robin Soderling for his second consecutive Brisbane title battle on Sunday.
Soderling reached the final earlier in the day after thrashing out Radek Stepanek in two sets with a score line of 6-3, 7-5. Soderling, by virtue of this win, has made his way into his career eleventh final on the tour.
“He is a player I do not really like to play against because he mixes up his game a lot. But today I was able to handle it really well – that is why I am really happy with today's match. Of course the final is the match you really
want to win, but if I am going to lose tomorrow I still feel like I have had a very good week of preparation before Melbourne,” said the Swede after the match.
Roddick in his today’s match also started strongly against Anderson and thus quickly wrapped up the first set 7-4.
The South African Anderson after losing the opening set did well to improve his game and put up a good fight to take the match to a third set. He won the second set 6-4.
The decisive set once again made things easier for the American as Anderson double faulted on two occasions in the first game and Roddick immediately took a lead of 4-0. The right hander maintained his dominance afterwards to seal
an easy win in the end.
In the doubles action, Horia Tecau and Robert Lindstedt won the doubles semi-final match at the Brisbane International after ousting Alexander Peya and Philipp Petzschner in two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3.
