2011 Brisbane International: Michael Berrer cruises past Dudi Sela
The 30-year-old Michael Berrer made his way into the second round of the 2011 Brisbane International on Monday after posting a three setter win over Dudi Sela. The final match score was 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-2. Berrer, as a result of this victory could meet the
number one seed Robin Soderling of Sweden in the second round on Tuesday.
The professional tennis ace from Germany, Michael, withstood a total of sixteen aces from his opponent and fought off all eight break points faced over the last two sets.
World number 47 is coming off after a long break on the tour as he played at the China Open as his second last tournament of the season back in 2010. In the opening round, the left hander got the better of world number seven Tomas Berdych in three sets before
falling at the hands of Gilles Simon with a score line of  7-6, 4-6, 6-7. The battle concluded in a time period of almost three hours. He then posted three opening round victories to advance into the semifinal round in Vienna where he was crushed by Andreas
Haider-Maurer, of Austria.
His other season highlights include runner-up appearance at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors and quarterfinal run at the Aircel Open Chennai.
While playing against Sela on Monday, the 1.93 meters tall took advantage of his two chances to break the Israeli as he sealed a hard fought win in two hours and thirty one minutes.
In some other action, Lukasz Kubot of Poland prevented all six break points on serve in a two setter victory over Daniel Brands. The final match score was 6-2, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Florian Mayer from Germany got the better of Bernard Tomic in straight sets to make his way into the second round of the competition on Monday. The score line was 6-2 6-2. This is the third time that Bernard has failed to win his opening round
match at the Brisbane International event.
The American tennis ace, Andy Roddick, who is seeded second to win the title, headlines today’s action of the play as he will open his account versus Marinko Matosevic, a wild card entrant from Australia.
