2011 Brisbane International: Robin Soderling surpasses Matthew Ebden to move into semis
The professional tennis ace from Sweden Robin Soderling swept aside his Australian foe Matthew Ebden in two sets at the 2011 Brisbane International Men’s singles tournament on Friday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2. The battle
concluded in a time period of seventy one minutes. Soderling blasted a total of nine aces to get past his foe.
The top seed Soderling, as a result of this victory, has also made his way into the semifinal round of the event. He will take on Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic for a spot in the title battle on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Matthew who reached the quarters after upsetting eight seed Denis Istomin on Thursday couldn’t continue his form against the world number five Soderling at the Pat Rafter Arena today.
Ebden started off strongly, however, world number five Soderling quickly took charge of the game to break during the sixth game of the opening set. He maintained his lead and thus wrapped up the set at 6-3.
In the decisive set, world number 196 Matthew looked helpless right from the start as Soderling further improved his game to eventually emerge victorious in the end.
In the doubles action, Paul Hanley along with his partner Lukas Dlouhy got the better of number one pair of Daniel Nestor and Max Mirnyi in two sets in their semifinal round on Friday. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2. They took
a total of fifty six minutes to hammer down the competition’s top seed tandem.
Lukas will be making his second appearance in the final at Brisbane. He previously teamed up with Leander Paes of India back in 2010. Paul, on the other hand, reached the title battle four years ago along with his partner Kevin
Ullyett.
As a pair, however, both of them are playing at the Brisbane International on the very first occasion in their career. The tandem in their today’s match dropped only four service points while making their way into the finals. They
also capitalized on three of nine break point opportunities to seal win in the end.
