World number 13 Shahar Peer of Israel swept aside Sophie Ferguson in straight sets at the 2011 Brisbane International competition on Monday. Seeded number two to win the title, the Israeli tennis ace got the
better of her opponent after ninety four minutes of action. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2.

Shahar who is currently enjoying her career best WTA ranking of number 13 in the world, played at the China Open in Beijing as her last tournament of 2010. She got the better of Sun Shengnan as well as Patty Schnyder, both in straight
sets, to make her way into the third round where the right hander once again did well to dismiss Bojana Jovanovski in two sets. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2. As a result of this win, she also advanced into the quarters in Beijing.
The 23-year-old continued her form in the final eight round and thus toppled Bacsinszky on the second occasion in two weeks however more comfortably this time with a score line of 7-6(4), 6-4. Her tournament’s campaign concluded
when the Israeli was at last bundled out of the event at the hands of current world number one and ultimate winner Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-final round in two sets. The final score line was 7-5, 6-2. Despite her final four exit, the 1.71 meters tall
achieved her career high ranking of world number thirteen in the South African Airways WTA list.
Her other season highlights include runner up showings at the 2010 Moorilla Hobart International, semi final appearances at the ASB Classic, Dubai, the 2010 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, the 2010 Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open and quarterfinal
efforts at the 2010 Open GDF Suez and Mercury Insurance Open.
In her today’s match against Sophie, Peer started off nicely hitting winners from the back of the court and moving forward. However, after some time Sophie improved her game to push her opponent around a little bit as the battle
went on, but in the end the Israeli proved too strong for her. Another impressive thing about Peer in the match was the way she was placing herself near to the baseline and moving well inside the baseline to receive the serve and take it early.
In the end, a couple of nice rallies combined with her aggressive play confirmed her berth into the second round of the tournament.
