2011 Cellular South Cup: Hradecka, Pervak win first round matches
Lucie Hradecka ousts Julie Ditty 6-1, 6-3
Although, first seed, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, was knocked out in the first round, her compatriot, Lucie Hradecka, made it past her first round opponent, Julie Ditty, in straight sets to win the match 6-1, 6-3.
The 25-year-old player needed less than forty-five minutes to defeat her American opponent.
Hradecka’s victory was no great surprise, since she is over 150 spots higher than Ditty on the Women’s Tennis Association [WTA] rankings. Ditty is currently world number 278, while Hradecka is only two spots away from cracking the Top 100 female players
list.
The first set lasted seven games, and was barely a challenge for Hradecka. She won 27 of 40 points, scoring an impressive 68 percent. Hradecka played three service and return games, while Ditty played four of each.
The Czech player, who lives in Prague, did not face any break points. However, she challenged Ditty to six and successfully converted half them. In addition to this, she fired four aces in the first set alone. Ditty managed just one.
The second set was somewhat more competitive, although a Hradecka victory was still expected. She scored eight aces in this set, and played five return and service games. Ditty shot just one ace once again, and played four return and service games before
being ousted 6-1, 6-3.
The Czech player also maintained her points won percentage, winning 32 of 52 total points to score 62 percent.
Lucie Hradecka will face compatriot Sandra Zahlavova (a cousin of Barbora Zahlavova Strycova’s) in the second round. She defeated Russian fourth seed, Alla Kudryavtseva, in straight sets 7-6(6), 6-4 to win her first round challenge.
Ksenia Pervak defeats Anna Tatishvili 6-3, 6-4
World number 94, Ksenia Pervak, eliminated professional Georgian tennis player Anna Tatishvili in straight sets in the first round of the 2011 Cellular South Cup, winning the match 6-3, 6-4. It took the Russian player, who is 19-years old, just over an hour
and forty minutes to defeat her opponent.
The match was expected to be close, as Tatishvili is only 28 spots away from breaking into the Top 100 and Pervak is on the bottom spectrum of the WTA charts. However, it was a relatively easy victory for the world number 94, who managed to challenge her
opponent to thirteen break points during the course of the match. She also converted ten of these break points, while Tatishvili was only able to win one.
Pervak also won 55 percent of the points in the match, while Tatishvili won 60 of 133. Both players scored two aces apiece, both in the second set.
Ksenia Pervak will now compete against seventh seed, Renata Voracova, who defeated American local player, Christina McHale, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.
