Evgeniya Rodina defeats Melanie Oudin 6-1, 7-5
Russian tennis pro Evgeniya Rodina made short work of American player Melanie Oudin, thrashing her 6-1, 7-5 in the second round of the 2011 Cellular South Cup. The match last a little over an hour and twenty-seven minutes.
The first set was an easy victory for Rodina, who dominated 19-year-old Oudin to win 57 percent of the total points in the match. Although both players scored just one ace in the first set, Rodina also managed to covert three of eight break points against
Oudin. She won 32 of 51 points during the match.
The second set was much more competitive than the first, with Melanie Oudin working hard to catch up on the progress she could not make in the first set. However, Rodina seemed to be in exceptionally good form. She managed to score two more aces against
World Number 72 Oudin, and also fought off two of five break points. In addition to this, the Russian also converted four break points against Oudin. She won the set 6-1, 7-5 in the twelfth game of the second set.
Rodina turned pro in 2004, and has been playing for almost eight years. Oudin, on the other hand, is a recent addition to the WTA Tour; she began playing professionally in 2008. She has only won one match so far this year. Meanwhile, this is Rodina’s second
2011 victory. She will now face Great Britain’s Heather Watson in the quarterfinals, after the British teenager defeated French player Stephanie Foretz Gacon in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Rebecca Marino ousts Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 4-6, 6-3
Canadian World Number 80 Rebecca Marino defeated Romanian 20-year-old Sorana Cirstea in a three-set long match at the second round of the Cellular South Cup, proceeding to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory. Marino took a little under an hour
and thirty minutes to defeat Cirstea, who is currently World Number 93.

Cirstea turned pro in 2006, two years before Marino. She has played ten matches so far this year, and this is her fifth loss. 20-year-old Marino, meanwhile, has played in twelve matches and won eight of them in this season. She also received her career-high
ranking of World Number 80 this year.
Sixth seed Rebecca Marino has made it to the quarterfinals in Memphis, where she will face American player Coco Vandeweghe. Vandeweghe defeated compatriot and 2002 Memphis finalist Anna Stevenson in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the second round of the tournament.
