2011 China International Regatta underway at Shenzhen: Day three – Sailing news
Breeze on Shenzhen waters on the third day morning looked promising in the first race but it vanished completely at lunch time and left the fleet and the race committee with nothing but a fruitless search for some air gusts, staying all day on the water.
Their patience brought them some good news and the wind, which seemed was gone for the day, started blowing again.
The breeze soon settled around the racing area and allowed sailors to make their way to the finish mark in their respective race. The breeze remained still at steady 8 to 10 knots until the end of the day.
The race commenced in the usual six classes on Day 3. Races of the Beneteau 40.7 class started first with many boats over the line and a spotter at the pin end. Beijing Sailing Centre’s Rick Pointon retained his overall lead of the fleet impressively with
nine points after three races.
The IRC fleet looked impressive on the third day, as the Division A fleet set a comfortable sail after the forecast became ideal. Anthony Root’s Red Kite II made it to the top mark with seven points while Jelik II owned by Frank Pong was able to hit the
second spot. Division B was dominated by Gerry Daughton’s Outrageous with eight points.
Bits & Pieces’ Graham Young was impressive on Day 3 and clinched the top spot in HKPN followed by Zoke Kiasu at second place with 17 points. Top podium in One Design J80 and Fareast 26 was occupied by Liang Long on Hainan Freedon Community and Ho Kah Soon
