2011 Copa America Team of the Group Stages – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Radamel-Falcao-c30276 and more (Part 1)
As the group stages have come to a close, eight teams have progressed onwards in the 2011 Copa http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035, Paraguay and Venezuela are the teams that will
compete in the knockout stages. However these teams have progressed in the tournament because of some of their star players in the tournament, some of these players are well known names whilst others are now trying to take their fair share of the limelight.
Thus, let’s take a look at these players in their respective positions in this featured series on the team of the group stages...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Renny-Vega-c30879 (Goalkeeper)
A typical South American goalkeeper, Vega is someone who has caught the eye in the 2011 Copa America. The Venezuelan goalkeeper is a beast of a shot stopper who excels inside his own penalty area. Vega leads his defensive line
from the back by organizing them into a unit. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paraguay-c2979, Vega
conceded thrice but then assisted a goal near the end of the match as well as he went up the field to head on from a corner kick. It will be interesting to see how the Venezuelan goalkeeper does in the quarterfinals but one thing is for sure that he is someone
to keep an eye out for.
Maicon (Right back)
After a disastrous season for Inter Milan in the 2010-2011 season, the Brazilian full back was a liability throughout the Serie A campaign for the Nerazzurri. He was put to shame in the UEFA Champions League by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 when
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves’ form meant that he became the first choice pick but Maicon was recently called back for the Brazilian national team at
2011 Copa America in a must win match for the Brazilians against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ecuador-c2889. Maicon rose to the occasion and showcased why he was once regarded as the most prized right back in Europe, as he bombed down the right wing time and again whilst keeping it solid at
the back as well.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Silva-c34903 (Centre back)
The Brazilian centre back has been helping his team mates at the back and now looks like a truly world class defender. Silva was one of the best defenders of the Serie A 2010-2011 season when A.C Milan marched onto their first
Scudetto in well over five years. It was a historic moment for the Italian giants whose http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 was at the centre of their success in domestic football. In Copa America Silva has been a stalwart defender for Brazil whose progression through the group stages
was largely based on an immaculate defensive performance as their offence was misfiring in at the start of the tournament. Silva’s versatility means that he can be used in the midfield region later on in the tournament but his partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucio-c22597 in Brazil’s
defence is their key to success in this competition.
