2011 Division One Twenty20 Recap
With the recent close to the European Championship Division One Twenty20 Series at FB Fields, St Clement on Sunday, July 24, 2011, the International Cricket Council (ICC) wrapped up the regional limited overs competition as the 4th of the year.
The events were administered by the ICC and came as an initiative by the governing body to promote international cricket amongst affiliate and associate nations that are without the Test cricket status.
Team’s that made it through the tournaments found themselves participation on the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in January 2012, leading to an eventual place on the main event, the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Championship in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Initially, the opening Division One contest for the year took off at the East Asia Pacific Region as part of the governing body’s World Cricket League with 5 participants contending over 4 days of play. The event featured the hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Papua-New-Guinea-c41002, following
by neighbouring nations http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Japan-c2928.
The competition came to an impressive ending with the series finale on July 7, where the undefeated hosts took on the Vanuatu side. The decider came to an eventual close with the New Guinea side retaining their undefeated streak, earning the eventual tournament
title.
Following the Pacific belt, the competition then took to Kampala, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 and the
hosts Uganda.
After competitive 7 days of matches, the tournament came to its closure with, yet again, the hosts earning the series to their name.
The bout, featuring Uganda and the much impressive Namibians, wrapped up after the Ugandan players marked a 6 wickets win over the Namibians.
On July 18, the event then landed in the Americas region, with 6 participants including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Argentina-c2841.
Staged at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida, the tournament came to a recent closure with the Canadians securing the eventual triumph at the series with the hosts Americans as the runner up.
With the start of the Americas region tournament, the following day, the ICC European Championship Division One Twenty20 Series also kicked off featuring 12 participants divided amongst 2 groups.
The teams as part of Group A included http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-c2925 made up the roster for Group B.
Following the end of the Americas region competition, the European Championship also came to a close, a day later, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Denmark-c2884 taking on the Italians in the series final. The title was eventually owned by the Danish side.
To sum up, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s initiative came as a noble one, with new participants and members entering the sport of cricket creating greater awareness and participation amongst budding nations.
