2011 Dunlop PSA World Series ranking; November update– Squash Special
With the squash year at its end, there have been drastic changes in the top spot this time. Egyptians have been knocked out of the top three while the Brits cement the top two. The last four tournaments have made the significant changes in the top 10.
Hong Kong Open 2011, China, started off on 20th of November 2011. All of the top ranked players competed for the event; however, it was Karim Darwish and James Willstrop making it to the finals. Egyptian lost the final as the Brit took away a major win. Willstrop was the third seed for the event, while Darwish was one spot up, Seed No.2.
Next up was Gdansk Open 2011. Playing at Poland, none of the top shots entered the event as they were looking ahead for the biggest season ending event, Kuwait Open 2011. 29th of November gave the start to one of the major events of the year.
Entering the Kuwait Open were all of the top ten players. However, the easy part was, the top fifteen got a walkover in round one. Nick Matthew started off as the top seed, followed by Karim Darwish the second, James Willstrop, Amr Shabana, Gregory Gaultier, Peter barker, Mohamed El Shorbagy, Thierry Lincou, Daryl Selby and Laurens Jan Anjema taking the top spots.
Making their walk through the first round, the second round flushed one of the top seeds, Amr Shabana, former champ at Kuwait, and rest of the top 15 made it to round three. Entering the quarter-final were all seeded players. However, the semi-final round was the most exciting stage of the tour.
Willstrop outranked Gregory Gaultier while Karim Darwish sent home compatriot and seventh seed Mohamed El Shorbagy and stepped into the last round of the tour. The former champ, Darwish was smacked down hard in four sets as the Brit, seeded no.3, got over the Egyptian in 65 minutes.
As the tournament ended, the top spots did wiggle a bit. While the world No.1 held his spot, Willstrop tore down Ramy Ashour from world No.2 to world No.3 and took the second spot. Gaultier, Frenchman, exchanged his spot with Shabana, world No.4. The last four retained their spots as Darwish at world No.6, then Peter Barker,Azlan Iskandar, Stewart Boswell and lastly David Palmer.
The last month of the year comes up with two of the biggest events of the year, Coronation London Open 2011 followed up with Punj Lloyd PSA Masters 2011, A World Series Platinum event, for which the players have trained all year.
