2011 F1 calendar unleashed
The 2011 Formula One calendar has finally been tailored. The management of Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, commonly referred to as the
FIA, settled down this Wednesday in Paris to finalise the race schedule for the upcoming season. Before FIA met this week another very significant meeting of the top officials of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) was arranged, in order to decide
the basics of the calendar.
The upcoming season would mark a record of 20 races calendar, which has not been held ever before since the emergence of Formula One. The past years have witnessed an average of 16 races per season, however, the 2008 calendar was inclusive of Singapore Grand
Prix and later in 2009 the debut Abu Dhabi race was inducted.
However, this year marked the maximum races with the inclusion of Korean Grand Prix in 2010 calendar. With the concept of globalising the sport, the Formula One Superemo Bernie Ecclestone has been adding a lot of venues lately in the calendar. Although many
of the race fans and other stake holders are happy with this concept and also FIA is earring huge profits, yet the teams as well as the drivers are not very pleased with the idea.
All the teams believe that such a busy schedule and long calendar do not allow them to have proper preparation time off the track. Moreover, such an extensive calendar also halts their research work for the next season’s car and strategy. It is very tough
for the drivers to cope up with the demands of such a hectic calendar and the immense travelling that comes along with it.
However, Ecclestone has vowed that the calendar would not add another race and for the addition of another venue one of the older ones would get excluded. The forthcoming season would be seeing the debut Indian Grand Prix, which is so far scheduled to take
place on 30th of October next year. But the final decision for the race would be taken only after the approval of the Delhi circuit, which is yet not constructed.
The final decision of the Chinese GP would also be made once the up-gradations work at the Shanghai International Circuit gets approved.
The 2011 season would start in the mid of March with the Bahrain Grand Prix and would end with the Brazilian round on 27th of November. For the past two years Abu Dhabi is holding the last race of the season, but would be hosting the second last
round of the season in the future.
