2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Volleyball Championship comes to Peru
The much awaited 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship is scheduled to start off on Friday, July 22 with sixteen Under-20 teams from around the world meeting in the cities of Lima and Trujillo in Peru.
The 16th edition of the biennial championship gives a unique opportunity to rising young volleyball players to get recognition from an international audience. The FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship serves as a stepping stone for new generation
players to gain experience and play in the senior teams.
The previous edition of the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship was held in Mexico, where the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali set the field of play. The German team seized the gold-medal by beating the Dominican Republic in the final showdown as Brazil
finished third.
Once again, the battle for volleyball supremacy will be fought among sixteen international teams from July 22 to 31. Teams from all five continents and major volleyball federations will be on board to contest their abilities and skills. The grid of sixteen
teams was finalised through qualification tournaments and aspiring teams found their places on the final roster after putting in a lot of effort.
Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria will represent Africa in the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship. They proved their endeavours at the 13th African Junior Volleyball Championship last year, which rewarded them with tickets to Peru.
China, Korea, and Japan will play under the tag of Asian teams. They earned qualification for the Junior World Championship via 2010 Asian Women’s Junior Championship, which was held in China.
Italy, Belgium, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, and Russia qualified for the competition from European Continent. They also went through qualification tournaments organised by Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) and finally clawed their way to the Junior
World Championship.
Dominican Republic and Cuba are the only teams representing NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Federation) in the competition, whereas Brazil and Peru are regarded as South American teams.
All teams have under-gone tough training and extensive practice for the 2011 FIVB Junior World Championship. The Germans have the status of defending champions and will be looking to retain their crown this year.
