2011 Family Circle Cup: Caroline Wozniacki versus Yanina Wickmayer - Player Comparison
Caroline Wozniacki is currently ranked world number one and has been playing as a professional tennis athlete since 2005. She is 20 years old, and has won a total of fourteen titles during her career. She is a Danish tennis player, and currently resides
in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Yanina Wickmayer is ranked world number twenty-three by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) at the moment and has been part of the Tour since 2004. She has been playing tennis in a professional capacity for one year more than Wozniacki but has only
won three career titles so far. Wickmayer is Belarusian, and resides in Monte Carlo as well.
So far this year, Wozniacki has already won two WTA career titles. Her first win came at the Dubai Duty Free Women’s Open, where she ousted Svetlana Kuznetsova in the title match of the tournament to take the trophy home. Her latest title came at the
Pacific Life Open, where she defeated Marion Bartoli of France in the final to win the trophy.
Wickmayer does not own any titles so far this year, but she was seeded second at the first tournament she played in 2011. This was the ASB Classic Open, where she managed to reach the title match against Greta Arn before being ousted in straight sets.
Her next successful showing was at the Pacific Life Open, where the Belarusian was seeded twenty-third. She defeated many higher-ranked players to reach the semi-final, where eventual finalist Marion Bartoli ousted her in easy straights.
Wozniacki posted good results at the first Major of the year, the 2011 Australian Open. She was seeded first and undid players such as Dominika Cibulkova and Francesca Schiavone on her way to the semi-finals. Her run ended here, as the eventual runner-up,
Li Na, defeated her in three challenging sets.
Wickmayer did not leave an impression in her Australian Open appearance, where she was seeded twenty-first. She faced Jarmila Groth of Australia in the first round, and proceeded to the next round after defeating her first opponent in straight sets.
Her next challenge was with Anastasija Sevastova in the second round. Sevastova managed to defeat her in easy straights.
Wozniacki received a bye in the first round of the 2011 Family Circle Cup, and faced the American pro, Irina Falconi, in the second round. She defeated the player, and undid the Czech player, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, to reach the quarter-finals
against Wickmayer.
Yanina Wickmayer is seeded sixth at the Charleston event, and also received a bye into the second round. Her first win was over the Chinese pro, Jhie Zheng, after which she defeated the Georgian qualifier, Anna Tatishvili, to set-up a quarter-final
meeting with Caroline Wozniacki.
