Chanelle Scheepers defeats Patty Schnyder

the match.
Scheepers and Schnyder played a balanced game, with both players scoring an ace apiece. However, Scheepers managed to defend herself against eight of nine break points while Schnyder was broken twice. Ultimately, Chanella Scheepers
prevailed 6-4, 6-4 with 53 per cent of the total points in the match.
The South African will now face American tennis pro Jill Craybas in the second round of the tournament, after Craybas ousted wild card Shelby Rogers in her opening match.
Christina McHale ousts Heather Watson
American local pro Christina McHale faced Britain’s latest teenage tennis sensation Heather Watson in the opening round of the 2011 Family Circle Cup, and managed to do away with her opponent in three tiring sets 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3).
She took a little over two hours and fifty minutes to win the match. Both players are 18 years old, and have not won any WTA career titles so far.
It was not an easy match for McHale, who struggled greatly in the first set. Despite losing it to Watson, she regained her confidence in the rest of the match and won her first meeting with Watson by taking 52 per cent of the total
points in the match. She scored three aces and committed three double faults in the process.
McHale will now face eighth seed Alisa Kleybanova of Russia in the second round of the tournament.
Ayumi Morita sends Mirjana Lucic home
Japanese tennis player Ayumi Morita took on Mirjana Lucic of Croatia in the first round of the 2011 Family Circle Cup, and managed to defeat the player in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in a little over an hour.

perform against her Japanese opponent.
The Croat scored three aces during the match, but negated this success by committing two double faults. She was also broken four times, although she only managed to break her opponent once. Ayumi Morita won the match by taking
56 per cent of the total points played.
