2011 French Open: Janko Tipsarevic crushes Pere Riba in the second round
Serbia’s third best player Janko Tipsarevic, ranked 32nd in the world, scored an easy victory against world number 65 Pere Riba of Spain in the second round of French Open, beating his opponent in straight sets 6-1,
6-3, 6-0 at Roland Garros in Paris on Wednesday. The match lasted for just an hour and 22 minutes.
Tipsarevic took the lead straightaway as he broke Riba in the first and third game of the opening set, racing to a 3-0 lead. The Spaniard opened his account, breaking the Serbian in the fourth game and reducing his lead to 3-1.
However, Tipsarevic was in no mood to spare his opponent as he broke the 23-year-old twice in the next three games to win the set 6-1. The right-handed converted four of the seven break points he received and saved one of the two break points he faced in the
first set.
The Serbian broke Riba in the sixth game of the second set to take a 4-2 lead. The five feet and eleven inches tall consolidated on the only break of serve and served out the set in the ninth game, winning it 6-3. Tipsarevic hit
two aces and 68 percent of the first serves, grabbing a whopping 88 percent of the points on them in the second set. The Serbian won the only break point he received and did not face any break point in the second set.
Tipsarevic did not look back after winning the second set as he was almost flawless in the third set. The Serbian did not allow his opponent to win a single game, breaking him three times and winning six successive games to bag
the set 6-0. The Belgrade resident fired four aces and 57 percent of the first serves, amazingly grabbing 100 percent of the points on them in the third set. The right-handed hit five winners and made two unforced errors in the third set. In comparison, Riba
was able to hit just three winners but committed ten unforced errors.
Tipsarevic will face former champion and world number three Roger Federer of Switzerland in the round of 32. The Swiss Maestro defeated Maxime Teixeira in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 in the second round.
