2011 French Open: Pauline Parmentier ousts Ksenia Pervak to sail into the second round
Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier thrashed out Ksenia Pervak of Russia in straight sets on Tuesday 7-6 (7), 6-4 to advance into the second round of 2011 French Open. The 25-year-old made a slow start but as the match progressed she
picked herself up and played a few cracking shots to move ahead in Paris.
The first set was played on a competitive note as the players traded serve breaks. Both contestants put up an evenly matched show and made a couple of serves breaks each to force the set into the tie-breaker. Having more break
chances in the set, Pervak managed to convert only two of them and hence paid the price as she was broken in the tie-breaker to allow the challenger to clinch the opener 7-6 (7).
Being the more established player in the contest, Paramentier continued to play her natural game with freedom and displayed some exciting tennis throughout the second set as she looked in charge of the match.  The two women struggled
to hold on to their serve games, however, Parmentier converted three break chances as compared to two achieved by Pervak as she raced to a 5-3 lead in the set. She then held on to her serve game to ensure her straight sets victory.
Giving decent performances on the tour since the start of this season, Pervak was expecting to achieve reasonable results here at Roland Garros. But she looked completely out of sorts in her opening match and committed a large
number of unforced errors during her stay on the court. Although her first serve conversion was an impressive 78 per cent, she was unable to convert a number of rallies in her favour and eventually wore out.
Parmentier, on the other hand, took advantage of her opponent’s mistakes and executed her game plan to perfection. She made the most of her chances in the match and converted six out of eight break points. However a whopping 28
unforced errors in the two sets gave her a lot more tough time then she would have expected. It’s an aspect of her game, which needs a lot of improvement if she wants to move on ahead and compete with the top players at the Women’s Tennis Association tournament.
Having a tough time on the tour, the Frenchwoman will take a lot of confidence from her win over a player ranked higher in the rankings than her.  In her next match-up, Parmentier will face world number four Victoria Azarenka.
To yield similar kind of results against Azarenka, she must bring consistency in her game play or else expect hope for a miracle.
