2011 German Grand Prix: Which driver is likely to dominate Nurburgring?
The German Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season is just around the corner and for the top three teams Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari, it will be the season decider before going in for the summer break.
Although one more racetrack will wait for the Formula 1 cars, the Hungarian Grand Prix, still the championship table tells that the German GP will be the decider of the championship.
An aspect of drama can be added to the final result in Germany, apart from the pace and reliability issues, because the rain will interrupt the entire race weekend. For that reason, the German Grand Prix is literally wide open for any of the top teams to
get their hands on.
Most likely to win the race in Germany can be Red Bull’s Mark Webber. Firstly, the blown diffuser is back in the 2011 season which will be favourable to the Red Bull team. Meanwhile, Mark Webber is all fired up to take down Vettel at any stage of the championship,
whether the Red Bull team likes it or not.
The Aussie’s aggression in the Silverstone Grand Prix and turning down the orders of his team at the final stage of the race tells that he will be waiting for a mistake from Vettel, which can be expected as the German is never comfortable on the wet track,
as was the case in Montreal and Silverstone.
Jenson Button will be another driver to watch out for who really sits on the track waiting for the drivers to make some mistakes in the wet conditions. The slow starter Brit is always exceptional on wet track and will be waiting until the very last minute
to storm his way through the racing peck, as he showed in the Montreal GP when he overtook the entire grid in the space of 20 odd laps.
Although not speedy enough, Mercedes duo Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg can also benefit from wet conditions in front of their home crowd. Schumacher will be the one to watch out for because the seven-time world champion is one of the best drivers in
history to manipulate the rainy conditions to his advantage.
Schumacher is waiting for his first win since he returned to the sport in the 2010 season. With a car like Mercedes have for this season, Schumi’s best chances of winning a race will be under wet conditions.
The only two rainy events of the 2011 season brought great speeds for Schumacher as in Montreal, he ran as high as second at one stage before ending fourth. Then in Silverstone, the German’s lapping times were matching the fastest laps from the top of the
order.
A rainy race always count for some pile up at the start of the race from which one of the midfield teams like Renault, Sauber or Force India can have a go at the podium of the German Grand Prix.
Nevertheless, as the blown diffuser is back on the cars for the last ten races of the 2011 championship, Red Bull will have all the advantage in Germany and the race will be theirs to lose.
