2011 Hopman Cup: Justine Henin outlasts Sesil Karatantcheva in Perth
Former world number one Justine Henin of Belgium outlasted Sesil Karatantcheva in two sets to help her country win over Kazakhstan at the 2011 Hopman Cup on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-4 6-3.
The 28-year-old Belgian, in her second year back after a temporary retirement today did not have to work hard to get past her opponent at Perth's Hyundai Hopman Cup. The right hander who also got the better of Australia's Alicia
Molik in straight sets at the event said she felt quite satisfied and is completely enjoying her game after making a comeback on the tour.
"It is not easy for people to understand this kind of choice to retire and return. I just tried to find my confidence away from the court, we always talk a lot about tennis and it's a lot of pressure, and we are in a small bubble
- in our own world - but life is much more than that. I needed to feel like a person away from the court and I came to realise I was feeling happy and I could be back at tennis with another type of balance in my life and I just want to enjoy a different way
now,” said Henin after the match.
Sesil recently came from her first round exit at the Brisbane International qualifying round. She entered in to the main draw of the Hopman Cup in place of her injured compatriot player Yuroslava Shvedova, who pulled out of the event as a result of her right
knee injury.
Justine combined power with class as she broke on two occasions in the first set and took a total of five games in a row to clinch victory in the end.
Meanwhile, in another match, Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium thrashed out Andrey Golubev in two sets and thus sealed the tie for Belgium. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4. He started off well, held serve for most of the time and did
not let his opponent bounce back at any stage of the game, throughout the match.
