2011 IAAF World Championships Statistics Handbook now available online – Athletics news
As the IAAF World Championships in Athletics are just around the corner, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) has published the 2011 IAAF World Championships Statistics Handbook, with the aim to take the interest and curiosity of
fans around the globe to a new level. The book can now be downloaded from the federation’s official website.
The compilation of the athletics handbook indeed was a toiling task which could only be made possible under the joint collaboration of Association of Track & Field Statisticians (ATFS), while Mark Butler, the renowned statistician, was kind enough to edit
the book to ensure its accuracy. The book, stretched upon 742 pages, can be regarded as a short version of athletics history, which will serve to be a feast for media as well as athletics spectators worldwide.
The statistics handbook is quite comprehensive as it not only contains complete results of all World Championships competitions held so far (12 in total), but also puts light over the results displayed by athletes in every round of their respective contests.
In addition, the book presents all important facts, figures and records along with performance trends of emerging athletes and the number of medals they had bagged during the global athletics events.
Interestingly, besides the results produced at the World Championships, the said handbook also depicts the efforts observed in major athletics championships like Olympic Games, Area Championships and of course, the World Athletics Championships organised
by the IAAF. Also, the handbook could not be considered as complete unless the world and Continental records were not included into it.
Perhaps, this is the reason that a detail of the all-time world lists, national records along with world record progressions and biographical summaries of stellar performers from all athletics disciplines has also been included into it.
The handbook, which is rather a heavy document, has been divided into four parts for the convenience of athletics fans and media officials. The book can now be downloaded from the official website of the International Association of Athletics Federation.
