2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series completes successfully – Badminton news
The successful completion of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series pleased the all concerned including the participants and the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The event offered a rewarding US$ 6000,000 as prize money, which grabbed the attention
of the shuttlers from all over the world.
The Indonesia Open is one of the five Premier Super Series events in the yearly calendar of BWF. The 2011 edition of the Indonesia Open, which ended on Sunday, June 26, received appreciation from the BWF and many athletes of different countries.
Event director of BWF, Darren Parks, expressed that the Indonesia Open is working well in the right direction by supporting the goals of the BWF.
Parks said, “This event is one of the best two this year, [beside] the All England championships in Birmingham which is also very good.”
While talking about the prize money and other arrangements of the Indonesia Open, Men’s Singles title winner and World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia said, “The prize money is increasing. We also get better hotel arrangements.”
Denmark’s Men’s Doubles ace shuttler and World Number Two, Mathias Boe, appreciated all the organisers for making it possible to conduct such a wonderful event. He said, “The light is better this year. I like being here. It is a great country, and fantastic.
[Indonesia] is the home place for badminton with all the noise.”
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles coach, Rexy Mainaky, also praised the successful accomplishment of the event by saying, “In overall organization, the open has been great. In previous events, we usually had blank spots here and there, but this time everything was
packed, looked different and was good.”
In the next edition of Indonesia Open, the prize money will be increased to US$ 750,000, as Djarum, the sponsor of the event, will make an increment of US$ 150,000 to the current amount, which is US$ 600,000.
The Indonesia Open Premier Super Series has gained paramount importance as it has become one of the major events in badminton. The BWF has made it mandatory that all top ten athletes in every category will participate in Premier Super Series events.
