2011 MLB Postseason Awards: Mark Buehrle wins Gold Glove – MLB News
Mark Buehrle, who is currently considered one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball, won his third consecutive Gold Glove on Tuesday night when majority of league managers and coaches voted for him. Buehrle was the only player from
Chicago White Sox, who was being represented in the awards.
Even before the awards, he was the favourite to win this particular award as his last season’s performance speaks volumes for him. Since arriving in the big league, he has been considered one of the superior defensive pitchers in the game. Last season, playing
for Chicago White Sox, Buehrle started in 31 games averaging 3.59 ERA with 13-9 win-loss record and 1.30 WHIP. Overall his career average is remained consistent at 3.83 ERA along with 161-119 win-loss record and 1.28 WHIP.
Despite performing in 2011 and winning this year’s Gold Glove award, Mark Buehrle might not play further for the White Sox next year as he has officially filed for free agency last week. Buehrle has played a total 11 consecutive seasons with the White Sox
so far since arriving in 2000 and considered one of the few players in the MLB who has played their entire career in only one franchise.
After so many years, he has finally decided to test his game somewhere else with some other team in the league but his long bonding with the White Sox may provoke him to sign another contract with them. Earlier, he has also mentioned his deep down respect
for the club where he started his professional baseball career.
Buehrle said, “It got kind of emotional there toward the end, but like I keep saying that, it's not 100% sure this is the last outing here for the White Sox. Deep down inside me, I'd love to be back at the White Sox but now… it depends which way they go
and which not, they've got a lot of decisions to make now, It is the first time I've ever had a manager down in the bullpen and when I was getting loose before a game. So that was special.”
According to Buehrle’s particular statement, it is still hard to say as to what will happen regarding the White Sox and his future relationship, but this is sure as wherever Buehrle decides to go, that franchise will hugely benefit from his extraordinary
pitching.
