2011 MLB Season Round Up: New York Yankees crushed Cleveland Indians 3-1 - Part-2
In the four-game competition between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians, the Yankees were leading the series 2-0 and Girardi was sure to take revenge of their 3-0 shut-out by the Boston Red Sox before this series.
Game 3: The Bronx Bombers clobber Indians 9-1 for third-straight day
At their home, in Yankee Stadium, on April 12, the Yankees entered the field with an ambition to record their victory for the third consecutive night. With a collective effort of the batters and the pitching depth, the Bronx Bombers managed to earn their
third back-to-back win, overpowering the Cleveland Indians 9-1.
Derek Jeter also joined the hitting impetus of Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez. Both of them were the heroes of the last two outings. Jeter went 2-for-5 and shattered his scoreless spell. Derek Jeter was just nine hits short of his 3000 mark, which
he shortened to seven. He earned two RBIs to join hands with Curtis Granderson.
It was going to be the biggest accomplishment of Derek’s life as he stated in his comments after the outing. "I'd be lying to you if I told you I haven't been thinking about it," said Jeter, who singled during a five-run fifth inning and again during a three-run
eighth.
Granderson went 4-for-4, scored two runs and earned two RBIs. Rodriguez added three more RBIs to his 2011 season account while Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano and Brett Gardner were also the major contributor in the Yankees’ third straight win.
Freddy Garcia was a little wobbly in just over six innings in which he gave away seven hits but was fortunate not receive more than one run. He managed to strike-out six batters.
Game 4: Carlos Carrasco shatter the Yankees dream to take four-game series sweep
An ambition to take a series sweep made the Yankees little unconcerned about their performance, which resulted in their shut-out loss at the hands of wounded Cleveland Indians in the last outing of the four-game series. Indians snatched the game 1-0 and
managed to halt the Yankees winning impetus.
No doubt, it was the perfect time for the Indians’ manager to express his jubilant feelings.
"I thought that Carrasco gave us a terrific pick-me-up," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "He started shaky with a lot of traffic out there, but I can't say enough about the job that he did."
Derek Jeter had some serious pain in his sore right calf. He was taken to the hospital and the doctors suggested for him to rest for two weeks. It sent the short-stop into a 15-day disabled list.
Girardi was worried of the Jeter’s condition, but had to wait for the next fifteen days before he could see his batter again in action.
Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher, Brett Gardner each were helpless against Carrasco, who earned his sixth win of the season.
