2011 MTS Super Spike schedule revealed - Volleyball Canada
There has been a recent announcement made by Team Canada Women’s Volleyball Centre in Winnipeg that the exciting outdoor volleyball event, MTS Super-Spike, will be held in the middle of July, 2011. The 2-day tournament will be officially kicked-off on July
15 and the famous Maple Grove Rugby Park will host the weekend activity.
Previously, the event was mainly sponsored by Bud Light but this year, MTS has also joined as the second major sponsor for the event. They have signed multi-year contract to run the Super-Spike Volleyball event in Canada. This year, the event will celebrate
its 10th anniversary.
Greg Paseshnik is the man behind the scenes and has played an instrumental role in running the event with success over the past years. He is playing the role of Event General Manager and has put a lot effort into attracting sponsors for MTS Super Spike.
He shared his thoughts about the event and said, “MTS Super-Spike has become a staple for Winnipeg summers as one of the best festival events hands down. The weekend has consistently grown every single year since it started and there are no signs of slowing
down. Our plan for the tenth year anniversary is to make it the biggest and best one yet. We hope anyone that has taken part in one of the previous nine years events will come out for this summer’s tenth anniversary and take part.”
The MTS Super-Spike provides a great opportunity for aspiring young male and female players to showcase their skills in front of bigger audiences. Approximately 250 teams have been registered to show up at this year’s edition of MTS Super-Spike. The number
of participating teams has increased from last year as there were only 217 teams at the 2010 MTS Super-Spike Tournament. This is a new attendance record and a clear sign of the success of the event. In addition to the Volleyball and Beach Volleyball tournaments,
the event also features live music. Top Canadian bands perform at the Super-Spike weekend festival giving audiences something special to remember.
The earnings from the event are solely dedicated to the welfare of Winnipeg-based Women’s National Volleyball Team of Canada. Last year the event raised around $300,000, while this year the earnings will be higher by $75,000 as more teams will be on board.
The Operational Director of Team Canada Women’s Volleyball Centre, John Blacher, stated, “We would not be able to function and operate at the level we do each year without the funds generated from MTS Super-Spike. The event has become everything we hoped
and envisioned it would nine years ago, helping our National Women’s Team attain the level of support needed to continuously compete with the world’s best.”
Fans and teams wait in anticipation as the volleybal event of the summer gears up for another edition.
