2011 NBA Draft Lottery Update: Five most over-rated draft picks - Part 1
The 2011 National Basketball Association Draft is fast approaching and the scouts are quickly completing the process of evaluations.
The association holds the NBA Draft Lottery event once a year. The teams who missed the play-offs in the previous season or the teams who hold the rights of the teams that didn’t make it to the play-offs in the last season are eligible to participate in
the lottery. These teams will conclude the draft order in the NBA Draft.
Through the NBA Draft the eligible teams will acquire the rights of young and talented players, who are playing for different U.S. colleges. International players are also eligible to take part in the NBA Draft.
The winner of the lottery gets to choose first from the draft. The word “lottery pick” stands for a draft pick whose position is resolute through the lottery, while the non-playoff teams who partake in this procedure are usually called “lottery teams”.
According to the present rules 14 teams can take part in the Draft Lottery. The lottery is weighted in such a manner that the team with the worst record during the regular-season or the team which holds the rights of the team that has the worst record has
a good chance to get the overall higher draft pick.
The lottery procedure decides the initial three picks of the draft. The remaining first-round draft order is in a reversal sequence of the win-loss record for the rest of the teams, or the teams which held the initial rights of lottery if they were traded.
During the successive rounds of the draft, lottery does not determine draft orders.
Though this year’s NBA Draft is unquestionably much weaker as compared with the previous ones. However, still there is a high probability that potential stars can be found from this group. Here are five prospects that are over-rated as their production does
not match their draft position.
Klay Thompson
At number five we have 6ft 6in Klay Thompson, who is the son of former NBA Number one overall draft pick Mychal Thompson. Many NBA scouts believe that Thompson has the talent and looks a good youthful prospect.
Thompson has the ideal NBA size and considered one of the sweet jumpers among the upcoming lot. According to the analysts, Thompson is a smart player and should be a high-quality scorer from beyond the arc.
The major problem with Klay is that he lacks that explosive athleticism, as he is not all that athletic. He is lagging behind many other players in this class. As a young shooting guard it’s going to be really tough for him to maintain his position and reach
the rim on offence, since he lacks the necessary quickness and speed.
Considering the above facts Thompson seems a mid first-round pick. He is more like a Marco Belinelli type player, such players are significant to the team, but as a mid first-round pick he is way up than his actual position in the drafts.
