Cowboys. This is the eleventh part in a series of articles discussing the first round draft selections in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York.
Locker measures in at just over 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 231 pounds. The 22-year old senior from Washington ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds, which is pretty fast for a quarterback, and has a 15-25 record in his career as a starter and a 7-5 record
during the 2010 season. Hailing from Ferndale, Washington, Locker had a 55.4 percent completion ratio during the 2010 season and managed 2,265 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
He was given an honourable mentioning in the 2010 All Pac 10 and has 7,639 passing yards in his career, which is the second highest in school history. His 53 career passing touchdowns at Washington are tied for the second most in school history while his
1,939 career rushing yards are the most in school history for a quarterback. Locker ranked third in school history for most career rushing touchdowns with 29, which includes runningbacks and halfbacks as well.
Next up we take a look at the Dallas Cowboys, who owned the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. The Cowboys ranked third in their division, the NFC East, with a 6-10 record. Their offense ranked seventh in the entire league while their defence was
much worse, ranking at 23rd, along with only one playoff win since 1996 which came in 2009.
The ‘Boys have 30 players on their roster that they drafted and their latest pick was Tyron Smith, offensive lineman from the University of Southern California. The 20-year old junior from Moreno Valley, California is the newest Cowboy that will come in
and bolster the team’s offensive line. Quarterback Tony Romo has a new protector as well as the players that run the ball, which has been a major issue for the past couple of seasons.
But what about Smith? Well he has a wingspan like a Pterodactyl. If you watch him in videos, he uses his immense size and strength to mow down the entire defensive line. What about the point of attack? For Smith, it’s not a problem. Take a look at some more
game tapes, you can see Smith’s ability to read the defence and work with it. The skills that Smith has for a player of his size are elite.
In conclusion, the eighth overall pick by the Tennessee Titans went to University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker while the ninth pick by the Dallas Cowboys went to Tyron Smith, offensive lineman from the University of Southern California.
