2011 NFL Draft Round One (Part 13)
University of Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert, drafted tenth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in a trade with the Washington Redskins, is continued here along with picks 11 to 13 of the first round of the draft. This is the thirteenth part
in a series of articles discussing the first round draft selections in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York.

Many believed that they would select Jake Locker but by the ‘Skins’ pick, he had already been drafted by the Titans to replace their troublesome quarterback, Vince Young. The Skins have the same problem with Donovan McNabb. In the end, the Jags took Gabbert.
The Jags ranked 15th in total offensive yards, third in rushing yards, 27th in passing yards and 18th in average points per game, all offensive. So with the Jags picking Gabbert, there had been three quarterbacks gone within
the first ten picks of the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Gabbert is a spread quarterback and his footwork is a bit sloppy, but his anticipation can be appreciated. He finds a window and throws the ball directly to the anticipated are for his receiver to catch in between defenders, sometimes as many as four at
a time. In other game tapes, you can see him manipulate coverage and make them think that he is running a different play than the one that he is actually going to play.
He is an athletic kid and with his eyes down the field tucks the ball and runs. But he peeks up, sees an open receiver and passes the ball to him before crossing the line of scrimmage. He has all of the tools that a quarterback needs. He has Sam Bradford-like
tools but won’t have the same transition time frame because he is coming out of a spread offense.
The Jaguars had drafted 28 of their current players in past drafts, with Gabbert becoming the 29th. The 21-year old junior from Ballwin, Missouri had a 63.4 percent completion ratio for 3,186 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2010,
his second straight season with at least 3,000 passing yards. In 2010, Gabbert was given an honourable mention in the All Big 12.
So with the first ten draft picks done, it would be pointless, redundant and fairly boring to go through all 32 picks of the first round. So let’s just run through them quickly so we can get on with the second round already.
2011 NFL Draft Round 1 Pick 11- Houston Texans draft University of Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt.
Pick 12- Minnesota Vikings draft Christian Ponder, quarterback from Florida State University.
Pick 13- Detroit Lions draft Auburn University defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
In conclusion, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted University of Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert with their tenth overall draft pick that they traded for with the Washington Redskins. The remaining article about the first round draft selections
in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York, will be discussed in the next part of this article. Take a look!
