2011 NFL Draft Round One (Part 2)
This is the second part in a series of articles discussing the first round draft selections in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York. Cam Newton, quarterback from Auburn University
and first overall pick by the Carolina Panthers, was discussed in the first part and is continued here, along with the Denver Broncos, who used their second overall pick to draft Von Miller, linebacker from Texas A&M University.

Newton can, however, make occasional throws that nobody else in the entire 2011 draft could make. Athletically, Newton will be off balance but he can deliver the ball with a strong arm and stunning accuracy at times. When you start to train him and allow
him to do what he does best, you will most likely have a very special quarterback. His athleticism, size and arm strength are rare in a rookie.
The 21-year old junior hailing from College Park, Georgia was named First Team All American in 2010 as well as the South-eastern Conference (SEC) Offensive Player of the Year. Newton had an incredible 2010 season, accumulating 2,854 passing yards, the second
most in a single season at Auburn, and 30 passing touchdowns, which is a single season school record. He also had 1,473 rushing yards, which is the third most in a single season at Auburn for
any player, not just quarterbacks. His 20 rushing touchdowns are also a school record for
any player, including runningbacks and fullbacks.
The Panthers have not won a single playoff game since 2005. They have also drafted 40 of the players that are still on their roster, the most in the NFL, meaning that players that come to Carolina usually stay in Carolina. So with Newton taken number one
overall, as many analysts predicted, what will he do now?
“Take a much needed vacation,” said Newton.
Let’s move onto who the Denver Broncos drafted with their second overall pick.
With the second pick in the draft, the Broncos drafted Texas A&M University linebacker Von Miller. This is the guy that has
the best first step in college football. Miller is the premier edge rusher in the draft and, even though he weighs in at 240 pounds, his game tapes show a variety of pass rush moves and his ability to win at the snap because of his speed burst off
of the line of scrimmage.
These qualities will ultimately make him an elite player. The only knock against him is that he is about 240 pounds but his tapes show that he is able to play with leverage and toughness at the point. All he has to do is learn how to do that consistently
because the run game is where teams are going to attack him.
In conclusion, the first overall draft pick owned by the Carolina Panthers went to Auburn University quarterback Cam Newton and the second overall pick owned by the Denver Broncos went to Texas A&M University linebacker Von Miller. The remaining
article about the first round draft selections in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York, will be discussed in the next part of this article. Take a look!
