2011 NFL Draft Round One (Part 9)
University of Missouri defensive end Aldon Smith, who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with their seventh overall pick, is continued here. This is the ninth part in a series of articles discussing the first round draft selections in the 2011
National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York.

Young is expected to be traded or released by the franchise in the offseason and the Washington Redskins might covet him more than most and they are tantalizingly close to getting a good quarterback with their tenth overall pick.
Putting things into perspective, there is a lot of growth with Smith, measuring in at 6-foot-3 and 263 pounds. He played defensive end in a 4-3 defensive scheme and was very effective when he went on the inside. Now the Niners will be asking him to stand
up and play rush linebacker in their 3-4 defence.
Smith is explosive and has a natural, physical skill set and the only concern with him is the tightness in his hips, which was made apparent at his Pro Day workout at Missouri. When he steps up and drops back, he is not natural and fluid but the Niners won’t
be asking Smith to do much of that anyways. He will be going after the quarterback.
That’s the thing, when you’re an outside linebacker, your number one duty is to go forward and beat the offensive tackles and other lineman. Smith has freakish ability and he understands how to pass rush. With the movement of his arms to keep the tackle
engaged, many people want to see if he is able to handle the run. He is only 21 years old and will be getting bigger, stronger and faster and the Niners staff will be anxious to train him and bring his fullest potential out.
We won’t see him drop back very often but he has intercepted passes and has played basketball, but what he does best is go after the quarterback and that is what he will be doing with the Niners.
The Niners ranked third in their division, the NFC West, after having a losing 6-10 record during the 2010 season. Their offense ranked 24th in the league while their offense was a bit better, ranking 13th. The Niners have not made
the playoffs in almost a decade, dating back to 2002, having drafted 33 of their current players.
The Mizzou Tigers junior defensive end from Raytown, Missouri had 48 tackles, along with ten tackles for a loss of yards, and 5.5 sacks during the 2010 season, his finally season at Mizz. He was selected to the First Team All Big 12 in 2010 and has 112 tackles,
29 tackles for a loss and 17 sacks in his career at Missouri.
In conclusion, the seventh overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers went to University of Missouri defensive end Aldon Smith. The remaining article about the first round draft selections in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) Draft, held at Radio
City Music Hall in New York City, New York, will be discussed in the next part of this article. Take a look!
