2011 NHL Awards: Vancouver Canucks Daniel Sedin wins Ted Lindsay Award, Comes up Short on Hart
The National Hockey League (NHL) players association voted for their fellow colleague, Daniel Sedin, and awarded him with the Ted Lindsay Award for being the most outstanding player during the regular season at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada,
USA, on Wednesday.
It was tough competition between three of the top players in the league, Sedin, Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks who won the Hart Trophy.
"It means a lot", Sedin said about receiving the reward after being called up on stage. "Any time you get that much respect from your teammates and opponents, it's big. It was a lot of fun”.
Daniel Sedin also had his eyes set on the Hart Trophy for being the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the league, like his twin brother, Henrik Sedin, who won it last year, but was beaten by Corey Perry and came in second by a hair's length.
There is no doubt that Sedin was happy on receiving the award on Wednesday night, but it still did not fill in a gap that was there for the Stanley Cup.
"I am honoured to win this award, but I'd trade it in a minute for a Stanley Cup", Sedin said about losing to Boston Bruins. "I don't think any of us have had an opportunity to fully decompress from what happened and understand it. It's great, but I want
to win the Stanley Cup".
He became only the second player in Vancouver’s 40 year history to have won the Ted Lindsay Award.
Swede Markus Naslund, former Canucks' captain, was the first to win it back in 2003.
Sedin was the highest scorer at the end of the 2010-2011 regular season with an astonishing 104 points, including 41 goals and 63 assists.
He led his team to its first Stanley Cup Final since 1990 and its chance at its first championship in history, but fell short against Boston in seven games.
Vancouver might have cooled down now, but its ready to unleash its wrath once again when the new season begins.
