2011 NHL Entry Draft: Boone Jenner, the Ontario Hockey League’s Shining Star
18-year-old Boone Jenner just celebrated his birthday not more than a week ago and now he and his family are headed on their way to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota for the 2011 National Hockey League’s (NHL) Entry Draft.
There could not possibly be any better birthday gift than being selected for the major leagues.
The best part about this is that Jenner is a very unique and capable player who certainly outshines his teammates on the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Oshawa Generals’ franchise.
His coach, Chris DePierro, and general manager who has been in the OHL since 2006, has nothing but praises for Jenner.
"The best way I'll describe Boone Jenner is he's a player", DePierro told NHL.com. "I use that as a compliment in every way. The way he conducts himself on the ice, off the ice, his character, his ability to play the game -- everything about him is a hockey
player".
DePierro is not the only person who believes Jenner is one of the best players he has come along.
Central Scouting's Chris Edwards said in an interview with NHL.com, that Jenner is certainly one of the greatest prospects in the upcoming draft and that the way he performs is amazing since he does the best he can every night on the ice.
His performance is truly a witness to why all have fallen in love with the Canadian native from Dorchester, Ontario.
In the past season alone with the Generals, Jenner put up 66 points in only 63 games which include an astonishing 25 goals and 41 assists.
Not only that, he also recorded seven goals and five assists in 10 minor league playoff games. He is also known to be a great competitor in the faceoff circle.
"When games are on the line, whether you're protecting a lead or trying to get that goal back, he's on the ice, he's taking that big draw", said DePierro, "and more times than not he's winning that draw".
Jenner ranks at the 18th spot on the NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of North American skaters for the 2011 Entry Draft and is expected to be one of the top picks when the event starts on June 24.
