2011 NHL Stanley Cup Winners Boston Bruins return Home with the Championship –NHL Updates
Winning the Stanley Cup after 39 years of constant struggle is a profound achievement in the National Hockey League and defeating a team like Vancouver Canucks in its home stadium and that too in a Game 7 decider is an achievement of its own. Boston Bruins
has returned home and is celebrating every moment of brining the Stanley Cup to Boston.
Nobody could have expected Bruins to win the cup in these playoffs, especially looking at its series against Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning. Bruins played hard and long with one goal in mind and achieved it in the end.
"It's unbelievable. It's very exciting for the whole city, for us, for the whole organization. It's a very special day", said Bruins’ captain, Zdeno Chara, after winning his first Stanley Cup in 12 seasons as an NHL player with three different franchises.
"We're very honoured to be here. We're so happy".
Boston’s coach, Claude Julien, appeared to be extremely happy and smiling which is a very rare sight in his case.
"We got it done, we brought it back to Boston and this is where it belongs", Julien said after arriving back to Boston following the win over Canucks in one of the biggest turnarounds of the decade.
The city of Boston is very joyous at the moment, gazing at their first cup since 1972 is an absolute thrilling feeling.
Bruins had its last chance at the finals in 1990 and finally won now, 11 years later. A parade is scheduled in the city on Saturday to honour Bruins’ victory and to allow the fans to catch-up with the blue-collar team which has always maintained a close
and personal relationship with the fans.
Boston’s veteran goalie and the Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Tim Thomas, is still surprised as the feeling of being a champion still hasn’t sunk in properly for him.
He along with most players of the team still have a good number of years left to play and seeing them defend their cup in the next season will be very exciting, especially for the Bruins’ fan base.
For now, Boston Bruins has the time to enjoy and it is looking forward to cherish every moment of the celebrations.
